STREET MUSICIANS—If you stop to listen to street musicians, even for a few minutes,  watch magicians, (even if you only stay for part of the show)or have your picture taken with someone letting you hold their python for exa,ple, you also tip them—its not mandatory with street musicians, it’s just customary & “I” feel it’s owed to them as this is how they make their living. STREETCAR, (only $1.25) or UBER or rent a (light blue BiIKE that you can leave anywhere & it will be retrieved by rental company). . Many areas for car parking are $6 an hour or $40+ overnight. *Parking by my house is free! .

ONLY HOUSE RULES I ASK: 

1Clean up after yourself, which  includes.    2 wash your towels and your bedsheets in the washroom downstairs Before you leave                           3 Fold & place back on futons. Or if you sleep on a sleeping bag washed it as well. 4. If you need soap or toilet paper or paper towels upstairs let me know because I never go upstairs. I just trust my couch surfers to keep the loft clean, but if you get here and it’s not please let me know 

5 ASK ME ABOUT SAFE AREAS TO GO TO As with all cities there are safe places and unsafe areas. But there’s one big difference here in New Orleans in that because we receive so much money to rebuild after Katrina many of our”hoods” for lack of a better term, Look like wonderful condos and they have meticulously manicured

Tipping & sales tax here:   i’ve had a lot of my international guests be amazed that the prices on menus  in restaurants are without tax—so it the menu says $20, add tax & it’s $22. Also you tip your waitresses. This is usually about 20%. So you would tip about $4-$5 for this meal. Your meal at a restaurant is more like $27 than just $20. It’s legal here to not pay minimum wage to waiters, so if you don’t tip them, they won’t earn much money. ——You also tip bartenders, (You dont tip at fast food restaurants).

• Carry a small bit of cash. as a few establishments such as the Café DeMonde) where you eat world famous beignets) only take cash.

MUSEUMS ARE CLOSED ON MONDAYS! They also close early, usually four. If you go with an Orleans parish resident (ME!) on cerWednesdays you can get in free at the zoo and the aquarium. I can take you. No need to rent a car,  Most residents here don’t even own one. Getting around is super easy.   WALK , take BUS or
